On 29 September 2026, at George Green School, Manchester Road, Mr K. Uddin successfully undertook his grading for 5th Dan.

Grand Master Denis (9th Dan) oversaw the grading, carefully assessing each candidate’s patterns, theory, set sparring and understanding of key Taekwondo concepts. Their technical ability was also tested through a range of kicks, punches, blocks and other fundamental techniques.

After intense training, hard work, sweat and determination, he successfully completed the demanding grading and achieved the rank of 5th Dan.
Mr K. Uddin: Reaching the rank of 5th Dan is a very significant achievement for me. After everything I have been through, including past trauma and ongoing health issues, there were times when I did not think I would come this far. However, by the grace of God, I have continued to train regularly, overcome the challenges in front of me and successfully pass my grading.
When I first started Taekwondo as a white belt, I always dreamed of opening my own class one day. However, I never imagined that I would eventually be running an academy as a 5th Degree Black Belt. It is something I am extremely proud of and grateful for.
The hardest part of my journey was returning to training after a life-threatening experience when I was a 1st Degree Black Belt. Although the incident was not related to Taekwondo, it kept me away from training for several years. At the time, I genuinely thought my Taekwondo journey had come to an end. However, my passion for the art never left me. That passion gave me the strength to return, continue my own development, and pass on my knowledge and experience to others.
My training has had to change over the years, mainly because of my health and restrictions with my mobility. Despite this, my commitment and attitude towards Taekwondo remain as strong today as they were when I first started.
As the head of the academy, I hope my own journey can inspire our students. I use my experiences to show them that challenges can be overcome and that nothing is impossible when you truly set your mind to something. I regularly remind students about the tenets of Taekwondo, particularly perseverance and indomitable spirit.
My advice to anyone who is struggling or thinking about giving up is simple: I have been there, and I understand how it feels. Look ahead at what you can achieve, believe in yourself and let us work together to find a way through the challenge. Always give 100% and never give up.
Reaching 5th Dan is a significant milestone and reflects years of resilience, patience, commitment and dedication to Taekwondo. It is a true representation of the spirit, discipline and perseverance that Taekwondo develops both inside and outside the dojang.

The Silverback instructors chipped in to buy Mr K. Uddin a private number plate for his new car. Judging by the smile, the private number plate may have been almost as exciting as earning his 5th Dan! (Registration details have been redacted for privacy.) 😄
We would like to congratulate Mr K. Uddin once again on this fantastic achievement.
